Cookin’ for a cure

Branch Ambassador, Chris Ford, Customer Service Representative, Financial Services Representative, Tania Dawson.
Representatives from CIBC Bank in Brockville cook up some tasty treats during their annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure fundraiser held last Friday in front of the bank’s King Street location. Proceeds from this year’s BBQ totalled to approximately $800, all of which will be donated to the Foundation in support of breast cancer research and awareness raising campaigns. This year CIBC will celebrate its 15th year as the title sponsor for the Walk, which is held in more than 60 communities across Canada.
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure will be held on October 2nd.

BGVA Volunteer Coordinator Retires

Friday, July 29th was a bittersweet day for the staff and volunteers of Brockville General Hospital as said farewell to one of their most dedicated staff members, BGH Volunteer Association (BGVA), Volunteer Coordinator, Christine Deault. Deault, who is taking her leave after 18 years with the Association, announced her retirement earlier this year, in order to spend more time with her growing family.

“I’m a new grandmother,” she said at a recent farewell gathering held at BGH’s Charles Street site auditorium.

“It’s been an amazing 18 years. I’ve had the privilege of working with wonderful people who are tremendously supportive of all the Association does, and who are committed to making our hospital run well. It’s been the best of both worlds, and I feel I’ve truly had the best job at BGH.”

Though saddened by Deault’s departure, BGH’s staff and Association members say that they wish her well and look forward to welcoming incoming Volunteer coordinator, Cheryl Marshall. Marshall brings five years’ experience as Executive Director of the Volunteer Bureau of Leeds & Grenville, and more than a decade in delivery of local childcare programs and services.

Marshall says looks forward to taking the reins as volunteer coordinator with the Association, and is grateful to the BGVA for the opportunity.

“From the moment I stepped through the door, I have enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and caring attitudes of the many volunteers and staff.”

The BGVA is one of the oldest service groups in the Brockville area, having celebrated 120 years of service in 2009. It is also the fourth oldest hospital auxiliary in Ontario, manned by over 300 volunteers who deliver 2000 hours per month in support of the hospital and its services.
