Career Services of Brockville will soon be able to increase their accessibility, thanks to a generous grant courtesy of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund, allotting roughly sixty-one thousand dollars, towards the installation of automatic doors, the creation of accessible parking, the purchase a TTY machine, and an FM system, as well as upgrade the website with color contrast. The grant, which supports community-based projects across Canada that improve accessibility, was presented to CS on behalf of Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, Diane Finley, by Leeds-Grenville MP, Gord Brown, during a brief ceremony last Monday.
“A disability shouldn’t stop someone from enjoying their life or contributing to the community,” said Brown.
“Our government recognizes the abilities of all Canadians and celebrates the progress we have made as a society towards the full inclusion of people with disabilities.”
Brown continued that the grant is a segment of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which is provided $14.2 for 297 projects across Canada that aim to improve accessibility through activities such as renovation, construction, and retro-fitting of buildings, the modification of vehicles for community use, and enhancements to information and communication technologies.
