The annual Kinsmen Club Snow Suit Drive has been underway for the past seven days and is unfortunately off to a slow start. Due in part to the unseasonably mild weather that the area has experienced for the past week, the goal of 1000 snowsuits still has a long way to go before it is achieved. As of Friday the Kinsmen have only collected 50 snowsuits to keep children in need warm in Brockville and the Surrounding Area; with harsher weather approaching, we're still working towards our intent to keep needy children warm this winter. Currently, there is a need for boys' snowsuits in sizes 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 in particular. The Kinsmen Club of Brockville and Family and Children Services will be running the 22nd Annual Snow Suit Drive until November 30th. The project is to collect gently warn snow suits, mittens, boots, scarves and anything else that will help the children keep warm during the winter months. Donation spots are located at Brett's Valu-Mart, Brockville and Area YMCA, Brockville Chiropractic & Health Associates, Brockville General Hospital, Canadian Tire Brockville, CARQUEST Auto Parts, C.I.B.C., Metro Brockville, Parkedale Tim Horton's, Real Canadian Superstore, Severson Cleaners, T.I.S.S., Wal-Mart and Zellers. On November 19th, the Kinsmen will have an area set up in the lobby of the Brockville Memorial Centre for the Brockville Braves home game; hockey fans that bring a snowsuit with them to the game will be presented with products graciously provided by Proctor and Gamble.
On Saturday November 27th, Santa Claus parade volunteers will be taking in snowsuits on the "Young Leaders" float. The drive continues into. The Kinsmen Club of Brockville will pick up the gently used snowsuits from drop-off locations and participating events and take them to Severson Cleaners where they will be cleaned and delivered to Family and Children Services to be distributed.
If you do not have a snowsuit to donate but would like to help, donations can be made to the Kinsmen Club of Brockville Snowsuit Drive (Kinsmen Club of Brockville P.O. Box 42, Brockville, Ontario K6V 5T7) which will be used to purchase snowsuits in sizes that are required by have not been collected.
