Local skateboarder rides to Ottawa for charity

Local skateboarder Josh White and three other friends made the 10-hour trip to Ottawa from the Civitan Skate Park in Brockville to raise funds for a pair of local charities, the Brockville and Area YMCA and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds Grenville.

White garnered donations from individuals around the city, raising over $3,000, to be split up equally between the two not-for-profit organizations.  “When we were fundraising we ran into an issue with most of the companies we were talking to having already donated to both the Y and Big Brothers,” said White, adding that the response from individuals they spoke to was amazing and accounted for the entire 3,000 plus dollars raised.

The grueling ride left Brockville at just before 9a.m. and arrived in Ottawa at Parliament Hill at shortly after 7p.m. for a total of 10 hours on the road.  “We had a lot of support along the way,” said White.  White’s brother Nick drove alongside the group offering support and supplies along the way.  White’s parents Rob and Lorraine, Vincent-Divyand Cuccaro and Louise Bonvie also offered their support and helped with refreshments during the 10-hour ride.
