Another season of deafening engines got started on the water on Saturday with two Brockville residents and other racers getting in their first test runs of the season.
Bert and Kent Henderson along with Leanna Richards from Ogdensburg, Paul Barber of Stittsville and David Kidd of Cambridge hit the St. Lawrence River in the midst of terrible conditions for a pre-season warm-up early Saturday morning.
“We are just checking on the overall conditions of the boats, to make sure there aren’t any issues,” said Bert Henderson. “This is also the time to get reacquainted after the winter layoff”.
The season kicks off in Long Sault on May 28th-29th, where Bert will be looking to repeat as race champion.
The Brockville Hydroplane races are on June 25th-26th, one week after the Wine and Food Festival and one week prior to Riverfest, giving area residents three great weekends of entertainment in the heart of summer. “We are looking to up the number of boats from 56 last year to over 70 this year”.
