Brock Fit team challenge this weekend

The Brock Fit team challenge on June 25th will test the overall power and strength of several area athletes.

The challenge is made up of functional movements including: tire flipping, deadlifts, gymnastic rings, and thrusters, designed to incorporate everyday movements and use every muscle in the body.  “I created this challenge to promote health and fitness and the Soldier On program, which was created to help military personnel who have suffered injury or trauma get back on their feet by improving their physical fitness through recreation and sport.

There are 10 teams of six competitors each coming from Kingston, Ottawa and surrounding areas to compete against several local teams including a team from the Brockville and Landsdowne OPP offices and three groups from our local military.

The event will begin at 8a.m. with the opening ceremonies at the Brockville Rifles Armory.

Cape Cod & Plymouth - Exploring our Roots

Sometimes referred to as just The Cape, Cape Cod is a destination that is returned to over and over again by locals as well as tourists.  Cape Cod is located in the easternmost portion of Massachusetts.  It is divided up into three sections; the top two are the most popular for tourists.  The Upper Cape is known for Martha’s Vineyard, and the Mid-Cape is known for Nantucket Sound and Hyannis.
On Howard Travel’s most recent jaunt to Cape Cod, we toured the Eastham Windmill - a Cape Cod lighthouse before heading to Provincetown where the guests had an option of doing the ever popular whale watching tour or partaking in a dune tour along the protected lands of Cape Cod National Seashore.
On the whale watching tour, the onlookers were not disappointed.  Like all other trips Howard Travel has taken to Cape Cod, the whales were out in full force and putting on a show.  The on board naturalist made sure to point out and sightings and had a lot to say about the different species that were spotted.
Like all other tours offered by Howard Travel, this one included guided tours so that the travellers saw as much as possible.  The step-on-guides that are used are locals and are therefore able to point out all the attractions that are of any interest.
After Cape Cod, we headed to Plymouth, famed for the Plymouth Rock where the pilgrims landed in 1620.  Although it is not nearly as big as it is in the imaginations on some, it is still a sight to see.  The opportunity to see the Mayflower II was also given to those that wanted to see the replica of the ship that was responsible for crossing the Atlantic Ocean with many of our ancestors onboard.   Inside this ship, we are given a good understanding of the conditions that the immigrants encountered during their 66 day journey to the New World.
On Howard Travel’s next Cape Cod trip, we are pairing it with Salem, the town rich in history surrounding the infamous Salem Witch Trials.  That trip will be departing for Cape Cod on October 2 and returning on October 6 after 3 nights on The Cape and one night in “Witch City”.
